The 36-year-old ace all-rounder scored eight boundaries including a six in his defiant knock. He also managed to add 53 runs for the seventh wicket with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made 16 off 61 balls.

Jasprit Bumrah (10) and Akash Deep (27) are unbeaten as the day's play ended with India scoring 252/9. The visitors are still trailing by 193 runs with only one wicket in hand.

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has sustained a right calf strain, which may rule him out for the remainder of the series, according to a release from Cricket Australia.
